HESSTON, Kan. - Hesston College secured a hard-fought 82-74 victory over Highland Community College on Monday (Feb. 10).
The game remained tight through the first half, with both teams exchanging leads with the Larks edging out a 37-36 advantage at halftime. The Larks turned up the intensity in the second half, outscoring Highland 45-38 to pull away and clinch the win.
Trent Thompson led Hesston with an outstanding performance, scoring 24 points on an efficient 10-for-12 shooting, including two three-pointers. He also contributed six rebounds and two steals. Jammial Hicks added 14 points and three assists, while Brycten Harris chipped in 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting.
Hesston showcased balanced scoring, with contributions from Ky Kougl (12 points) and Terryon Stebbins (9 points, 6 rebounds). The Larks' bench played a crucial role, contributing 40 points in total.
Hesston shot an efficient 50% from the field and capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 81.3% of their attempts. Their defense also played a key role, limiting Highland to 40.6% shooting overall.
The Larks will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 12) as they take on Labette Community College at 7:30 p.m.
