HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College women's basketball team secured a 69-63 victory over McPherson College JV on Monday (Feb.17).
The Larks came out strong, dominating the first quarter with a 26-16 lead. McPherson fought back in the second and third quarters, narrowing the gap, but Hesston sealed the win with a decisive 20-point fourth quarter.
Key performances included Ashleigh Williams, who led the Larks with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Brittany Cato, who added 19 points, including five three-pointers. Mariah Hall contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, while Akiva Brown added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Defensively, Hesston forced 22 McPherson turnovers, with 15 steals as a team. Their rebounding advantage (51-48) and timely scoring helped them maintain control despite some turnover struggles of their own.
Hesston's largest lead was 13 points in the fourth quarter, and their ability to hold off McPherson's late push secured the non-conference win.
The Larks will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 19) as they take on Kansas City Kansas Community College at 5:30 p.m.
