HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season against #2 Johnson County Community College on Wednesday (Feb. 26), falling 82-33 at home. The Larks held the Cavaliers to a six-point lead well into the opening quarter, but the reigning Jayhawk conference champions soon found a rhythm on offense extending their lead to 41-10 by halftime.
Despite the early deficit, Hesston showed resilience in the third quarter, scoring 19 points—more than their entire first-half total. Akiva Brown led the charge with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Anna McIntire contributed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. However, Johnson County's depth and efficiency proved too much, as they closed out the game with a dominant 26-point fourth quarter.
Defensively, Hesston had some bright spots, recording six blocks, including three from Brown.
The Larks earned the seventh seed in the KJCCC Tournament and will take on second-seeded Allen Community College on Monday (Mar. 3) in Iola, Kan. at 6 p.m.
