HESSTON, Kan. - Hesston College volleyball fell in straight sets to Langston University (11-25, 11-25, 10-25) in their first NAIA match. Hesston struggled offensively managing just six kills as a team while committing 23 attack errors. Kennedie Esparza led the Larks' attack with three kills on a .231 hitting percentage, while Lillian Dolberry and Esparza each contributed two block assists at the net. Joanna Gomez and Brylee Budde recorded the team's two service aces, and Kadence Taylor anchored the defense with a team-high five digs.
Langston's offense was paced by Teia Woodson, who tallied 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage, and Ayanna Moore, who added six kills and two block assists. The Lions hit .250 as a team, recorded 11 service aces, and collected 45 digs, led by Leah McCall's 13. Langston jumped out to early leads in each set, capitalizing on Hesston's attack errors and maintaining steady production from their front line. Despite moments of strong blocking and a few timely kills, the Larks couldn't overcome Langston's balanced offense.
The Larks will be back in action on Thursday (Aug. 28) as they host Tabor College for a JV/Varsity doubleheader. The JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity will start at 7 p.m.
