Bethany, Okla. — Hesston College men's soccer fell 4-0 on the road to Southwestern Christian University on Saturday afternoon, despite a determined defensive effort that saw goalkeepers Harry Morris and Ethan Connelly combine for three saves against a relentless Eagles attack.
Southwestern Christian struck early and often in the first half, capitalizing on pressure that resulted in nine corner kicks before the break. Yuki Yabunaka opened the scoring in the 11th minute, followed by a 33rd-minute strike from Otavio Avila off an assist by Romeo De Stefano. Just before halftime, Shonosuke Suzuki added a third, finishing a setup from Augustine Mateos and Adam Byzda to give the Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Hesston tightened defensively and found moments to push forward, with Jeremi Saavedra Casilimas firing high in the 86th minute and Yura Yamazaki forcing a save in the final seconds of regulation. However, Southwestern Christian extended their advantage in the 76th minute as Avila scored his second of the day, assisted by Vinicuius Cruz.
Hesston managed just two shots in the match — one on goal from Yamazaki — while Southwestern Christian tallied 13 shots, seven on target.
