OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Hesston College golf team competed at the NJCAA South Central District Championships at the Lake Hefner Country Club from May 7-8. The Larks finished third as a team posting a total of 908 (+44). After struggling in their first two rounds, posting scores of +26 and +16, the Larks posted a +2 in the final round, the lowest team round score against par in program history and the second-best team score of the round.
For the third year in a row, Hesston College will be represented at the NJCAA DII National Championships as two Lark golfers qualified. Mark Neeley and Ivar Bruce punched their tickets to nationals by finishing as the top two individuals that were not attached to a qualifying team.
Neeley posted the Larks best individual performance finishing with a total of 213 (-3) which was good for third place. Neeley finished the tournament with rounds of 72, 70 and 71 with seven birdies and an eagle. Bruce finished in eighth place with a total of 221 (+5) scoring nine birdies and two eagles. Bruce got off to a rough start on the first day, but battled back on his way to a historic final round to finish in the top-10 and punch his ticket to nationals. Ivar's low round of 68 (-4) tied for the lowest round vs par and tied for the second lowest round score in program history.
Neeley and Bruce will travel to Plymouth, Ind. for the national tournament hosted at Swan Lake Resort from May 20-23.
